- In February 2009 Judy Watson was appointed artist in residence at the University of Queensland's Heron Island Research Station. Her residency coincided with the official launch of the Research Station, rebuilt after being destroyed by fire in 2007. Her daily walking excursions around the island produced a collection of material for visual research and used them to made drawings and etchings.
- Judy Watson provided an image from her Heron Island suite to cover a train in the indigenous art initiative known as Tilt train : public art on the tracks.
