| Summary |
Full-colour facsim. of Fitzwilliam Museum (Cambridge, U.K.) ms. 1058-1975, produced in Bruges ca. 1510. Its illuminations are attributed to the Master of the Dresden Hours and the Master of James IV of Scotland, among others.
"The content of the Fitzwilliam Hours is characteristic of late medieval Books of Hours. It includes the core texts , mostly derived from the Breviary: a Calendar, the Little Office of the Virgin, the Penitential Pslams and Litany, the Office of the Dead and the suffrages of Saints. The book also contains various less canonical, but equally common elements: the Short Hours of the Cross and of the Holy Spirit, the Gospel Sequences and two of the most popular Marian prayers, known as Obsecro te and O intemerata from their opening words. In addition, the Fitzwilliam Hours accommodates a number of optional texts: the Passion according to St. John, additional Masses and devotions to the Virgin, the Prayers of St. Gregory and the Seven verses of St. Bernard." -- Commentary [p. 33]
