Allan Luchetta born 1948 in Hawthorn, talks about his parents; his grandmother caring for him during holidays; his aunt and uncle; the schools he attended; his siblings, six brothers and one sister; brother Thomas; the distribution of his siblings; his education; leaving the orphanage in the middle of his final exams and unable to complete the qualification; the incident which led to his dismissal; Brother Cahill; travelling to Melbourne at his own expense, and starting work with the Myer Emporium; other holiday experiences; his first impressions of St Augustine's; Brother Moore; Brother Webster; the poor quality of food; Brother Eastmure; punishments; accepting lack of privacy; not feeling cared for; Dick Gerrard; sporting activities; his involvement in the brass band; his progress at school; working on the farm and in the kitchen; general atmosphere at St Augustine's; Brother Rowbottom; the problems associated with being a boy from the orphanage in the local school; Mr Tippett; his relations with peers.
