Folkloric recording. Introduction and welcome to Christina Mimmocchi, Tom Bridges and Christine Wheeler by Warwick Cathro, A/g Director-General of the NLA; he explains the nature and background of the National Folk Fellowship and introduces the Managing Director of the National Folk Festival, Sebastian Flynn, the Artistic Director, Dave O'Neil and Dr Patricia Clark, Chair of the Fellowship panel. Kevin Bradley, Curator of Oral History and Folklore at the NLA, introduces Christina and her two associates; he describes the practical difficulties of searching the NLA folklore archives for "songs suitable for massed voices". Christina talks about her experience of searching the NLA folklore archive; looking for "good songs" possessing some cultural significance; the procedure for arranging, rehearsing, recording and up-loading them to the National Folk Festival website; her aim to have material available for immediate rehearsal and performance by a massed choir at the Festival; narrative ballads; bushranger ballads; her timeline for the production schedule and time pressures that developed; the assistance of the NLA with the recording phase; the folklore archive; her book "If I Give You a Golden Comb"; the 120-voice Festival choir; Frank Letts; WWI songs; writing additional material for some pieces; the success of 'Songlines of the Moon Bird' as presented by the Festival and other choirs; the importance of teaching and transmitting our folk heritage; Lola Wright; Lucia de Bortoli.
