The collection consists of five photographic slides relating to Skipper Nielsen's work as supervising architect during the construction of the Sydney Opera House. Three slides depict an elevated view of the whole Opera House site taken during Stage 1 (1962?) of the construction and before the beginning of the Stage 2 roof construction. The other two slides feature a section of wall and trusses, also taken during Stage 1. November 1999 additions: Agreement and conditions of contract for the construction of Stage II of the Sydney Opera House...Sept. 1962 and a draft agreement dated June 1962 ; letter to Utzon with Minutes of 67th meeting of the Sydney Opera House Executive Committee Meeting of 17 September 1963 and agenda for the 68th meeting ; draft of a speech and outline of points for the speech ; photographs, 3 packets of negatives, and slides, mostly undated, of the Sydney Opera House in various stages of construction and models of it, mainly of the sails. A letter to Skipper accompanies one batch ofslides ; 6 journals, 1961-1973, with articles on the Opera House and an article torn from a journal ; undated sketch ; publication to commemorate the commencement of the Opera House building, 2 March 1959 and "Utzon and the Sydney Opera House: a statement in the public interest" reissued by Utzon's supporters in 1967 ; a copy of "Sydney Opera House Stage 1 report on claims dealing with increase in contract value and class "C" framework", 1963? ; work diaries for 1961-1965. These include notes and small sketches relating to the Opera House by Jorn Utzon as follows. Pencil drawing (6B pencil) of the plan of the Opera House podium on 28/1/63; a 6B pencil sheet fixed to the 10/12/63 showing various stone finishes for the podium; note in red pencil (Danish?) and the Urgent note on 10/3/64; sheets attached to 24/2/65; 31/3/65 Danish I.O.U. These have been identified by Peter Myers and are indicated by notes within the diaries ; photocopy of only known image of Skipper Nielsen, from David Messent "Opera House Act I", Sydney, 1997.

Architect. Olaf Skipper Nielsen was a supervising architect during the construction of the Sydney Opera House from 1960 until June 1965. Olaf Skipper Nielsen was born in Denmark in 1922. He graduated from the Royal Academy in 1951, was a member of the Architect's Union and worked in Kenya, England and Greenland before moving to Sydney, as Jorn Utzon's Site Representative, in 1961 to work on the Opera House. He returned to Denmark in 1965 and moved to England in 1968 where he died on 29th October 1995.
