Folkloric recording. Chrissie Smith was raised in the Tasmanian town of Copping. She talks about her early life with her father, Seddon 'Jack' Smith, who was a unique local character; his collecting of old wares and remaking them; the beginnings of his musem; her mother's job as a washerwoman and how the job was carried out; aspects of social life in Copping; her mother's cooking; home remedies; the broom dance (a distinctive local dance); her education; her later life as a chef; moving to the N.S.W. opal mining town of Lightening Ridge; the establishment of her restaurant 'Hungry Hundy's' at the Sheepyard opal field, her menu and cooking methods; living condtions and social life on the opal fields.
