Summary

Powell speaks about the changes in ballet dance style & the improvements in the standard of dance generally; well known dancers, choreographers and directors known to him from his time with the Australian Ballet; his association with Britain's Royal Ballet; the importance of gaining overseas experience for the development of a dancer; the split of the Australian Ballet into two touring companies; his decision to come to Australia to assist Peggy Van Praagh to establish the Australian Ballet in 1962. He recalls his first role in a ballet in England and performances during the Blitz. He speaks about his association with the Australian Ballet School, works he choreographed specifically for the school; and the Australian Ballet's anniversary gala production "Beyond Forty".
