Summary

Developed for use in the automotive mechanics program at Brooklyn High School in the Cleveland suburbs, this course of study is presented as an example of an application of the instructional systems design (ISD) process. Introductory material includes school and program philosophy statements and a general description of the program, which is designed to give the student, over a two-year period, 1,620 hours of practical training in manipulative activities and related technology so that he can acquire a job as an automobile mechanic advanced learner. Instructional program strategies (group and individual demonstrations, audio and visual presentations, and field trips) are discussed along with procedures for the daily laboratory and class routine. Major content of the guide consists of a course outline divided into junior and senior class sections. A topical listing of the course content is followed by a complete instructional schedule. In the laboratory component content is arranged in instructional groups that include objectives, content, notes, and suggested management, instructional, and evaluation strategies. Where rotation of students through specific learning activities is required, a rotation schedule is included. The related technology component is sequenced by instructional days over the entire two-year period. Appendixes include samples of lesson plans, assignment sheets, work sheets, information sheets, tests, and work request forms. (JT)
