Summary

A study conducted at Louisiana State University was designed to: determine demographic characteristics of master's degree graduates in school administration in order to draw conclusions concerning identifying profiles; ascertain the extent to which the graduates perceived the courses of instruction in their academic preparation as relevant to subsequent educational administrative functions; and to determine which additional courses of instruction not in the present curriculum were perceived as relevant professionally to current educational administrative function. Of the 215 questionnaires mailed to graduates in school administration, 151 usable responses were received. Based upon the findings, the following recommendations are offered: maintain the 12 courses of instruction that compose the school administration curriculum; introduce an elective course involving the study of human relations and possibly including the sociology of education and school discipline; introduce a one-semester, required administrative practicum; and introduce public speaking as an elective course.
