Jessie Bell, born in 1920, discusses her early life and family background; Timmsvale, New South Wales, being named after her father; her parent's religious beliefs; her schooling; using slates at school; the use of bullock teams to clear land; the use of horse and sulky; the local baker and roads; descriptions of travelling through nearby mountainous areas and milling towns; sawmills and related tools, machinery and log transportation; the arrival of the first 'T' Model Ford; work during the Depression; attitudes towards 'foreigners' and population growth; observances of and attitudes towards the local Aboriginal population; working in the office of her father's joinery works in Grafton.
Bell discusses marriage (1938) and children; moving to Coffs Harbour; a story about lions escaping from a circus in Coffs Harbour (1953); the introduction of railways; descriptions of mountain train lines; bird life in the mountains; vegetable growing and deliveries; town butcher shops; ice and meat safes; the picture theatre; dingoes, wild dogs and foxes; keeping warm in winter; home entertainments; community gatherings and events; church life; her involvement in the Country Women's Association; caravan touring with her husband; her houses; storms and climate change; playing tennis; children's behaviour today; receiving an O.A.M. for her work with music for the aged (2011).
