The English language and literature transition course is intended for high school students at the intermediate or advanced proficiency level in English as a second language intending to pursue further English language arts and literature courses. It builds on the communication skills introduced earlier in the English-as-a-second-language course series. The curriculum guide for the course outlines the program and course philosophy, rationale, and target audience; states the program and course goals and objectives, including minumum expectations; describes the intended content; suggests teaching strategies and instructional planning and organization techniques; outlines purposes and strategies of student evaluation; gives recommendations for learning resources; and includes materials for teaching patterns of discourse organization and for planning thematic units.
