MS 261 comprises photocopies of the following research material: items from the Chathams papers, 1790 (PRO 30/8/128); items 1790, in the PRO (F.O. 95/7/4); documents 1786-94, held at the Archivo general de Simancas, Spain (E. 8144 and E. 8159); and, items from the Brabourne papers, 1806, (vol. 4) held at the Mitchell Library, Sydney. There is a photocopy of an article by King titled "'Ports of shelter and refreshments...': Botany Bay and Norfolk Island in British naval strategy, 1786-1808", published in Historical studies, v. 22, no. 87 (Oct. 1986); and, a photocopy and negatives of a letter from Joseph Banks to Carl Thunberg, 17 June 1785, held at the Uppsala University Library, Sweden (G: 300C).
Also, an offprint of King's article "A letter from Thaddeus Haenke to Sir Joseph Banks" (with Victoria Ibanez), published in the Archives of natural history, v. 23, no. 2 (1996). Other papers include articles by King, 1995-2001, on the subjects of Alexandro Malaspina, Francisco Munoz y San Clemente, Jorgen Jorgensen and the Baudin expedition, and the visit of the Malaspina expedition to New South Wales (1 box, 1 fol. box).
The Acc10.056 instalment comprises offprints of two articles by King: "Arthur Phillip defensor de colonia, governador de Nova Gales do Sul", published in Anais de historia de alem-mar, no. 6 (2005); and, "'The long wish'd for object': opening the trade to Japan, 1785-1795", issued in The northern mariner (Le marin du nord), v. 20, no. 1 (Jan. 2010) (1 packet).
The Acc11.157 instalment comprises the offprint of an article by King titled "Heinrich Zimmermann and the Proposed Voyage of the Imperial and Royal Ship Cobenzell to the North West Coast in 1782-1783", published in The northern mariner (Le marin du nord), v. 21, no. 3 (July 2011) (1 folder).

Historian, author and translator. Robert J. King is a Canberra historian and author. He has published a number of works, including Eora and English at Port Jackson: a Spanish view (1989), The secret history of the convict colony: Alexandro Malaspina's report on the British settlement of New South Wales (1990), and Examen politico de las colonias inglesas en el Mar Pacifico (1991).
