- "These artistic photographic prints record the final vestiges of traditional Tokugawa Japan as the culture slowly emerged into the modern era (Meiji period). Temples, gardens, Shinto shrines, Kyoto shrines and street scenes, and small village scenes, Mt. Fuji, tea huts, Japanese bridges, portraits of Geishas, and a Kyoto sandal shop, are just a few examples of the sujcet matter portrayed herein. All prints are unsigned but are very much in the style of Kusakabe Kimbei. (ca. 1880's - 1912, Yokohama)" -- (catalogue 28. Japanese Books/ Urus Rare Books, New York City : [Item] 10)
