Biography/History

A playbill for the Edinburgh season of an 1818 revival of the famous "Historical Ballet" based on the death of Captain Cook, which was first performed in 1789. In this season, the libretto is adapted to include performances by "Amercian Indian Warriors", who appear to play the part of the Hawaiian Islanders, as well as taking audiences through "various ceremonies descriptive of the peculiar manners and customs of their country". Evidently the American Indians were on a tour of the north, because the same year they gave an archery display in competition with the Scottish Royal Company of Archers.
