Michael O'Dea, born in 1940 and whose mother died in 1944; speaks about family; boys going into St Aidan's Orphanage Bendigo in 1947; being treated well by the Sisters of the Good Shepherd; visits from father and sisters; life in the orphanage; sent to St Vincent's Boys home when he was 10 years old; bullying; life and school at St Vincent's, Brother Culla Peters; billeted out in school holidays with families; camping at Merricks; earning pocket money in laundry; religion; communal showers; strict routine; when aged 15 he went to work, milking, gardening, long hours; farm at Minyip; various jobs; no secondary education past grade 8, making life difficult; meeting Isobel, marries her in 1968, birth of daughters; Isobel's orphanage background and foster parents; working at St Aidan's farm in later life. Discusses being underprivileged, effects of honesty about his background; voluntary work in aged care home and plant nursery; welfare work at St Vincent de Paul's Society; maintains his Catholicism; memories of St Vincent's orphanage and the brothers.
