Summary

Henry Leon talks about his childhood and family life growing up in South Africa; schooling and electrical apprenticeship in Kimberley (South Africa); joining a trade union after obtaining work in the local Council; living under the Apartheid regime; how his father, Sonny Leon, influenced his political thinking; activities of his father in the United Party and in the Labour Party in the Coloured Representative Council; reaction to the ‘Group Areas Act’; the decision to migrate to Australia; joining the Australian Labor Party; description of the activities of the Peakhurst Branch and the activities of Branch members during election campaigns.
