Summary

A comment on consumerism, constructed from the junk mail that the artist collected from his letterbox over a period of months. He then "began sifting through it, looking for the hooks that the corner takeaway, the multinationals, local tradesmen, and real estate agents use to make me their customer," but was struck with the advertisement's familiarity and lack of sophistication, relying on graphic design strategies and devices from the 1950s, the Golden Age of Advertising. Using only four basic functions of the photocopier - lighten, darken, enlarge and reduce - he isolated aspects of the ads and presented them simply on yellow paper, with gold paper for emphasis at the beginning and the end of this excursion down the "more more more" golden road of promise which will lead us to a cheaper, better world, once we liberate the cash from our wallets. (Adapted from the artist's statement)
