An early souvenir opera programme for a performance of Nellie Melba at Buckingham Palace, not long after her arrival in London in March 1886 and her big success in Romeo et Juliette at Covent Garden on what she called "the great night of 15 June 1889." The Italian contralto Sofia Scalchi (1850-1922), the Irish tenor Barton McGuckin (1852-1913), and the Italian baritone Enrico Stinco-Palermini also appeared, and the evening concluded with all four performing a quartetto of a piece by Verdi. The conductor was W. G. Cusins (1833-1893). Programme on paper, printed in silver ink with an embossed colour Royal Coat of Arms of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland at the head; framed with embossed and perforated paper lace decorations.
