John Rymill and Surgeon Lieutenant Commander E.W. Bingham, Royal Navy, surveyed unknown territory high on the peninsula over the Weddell Sea, where Shackleton's Endurance was crushed in 1915. William Launcelot Scott Fleming was the geologist and chaplain. Rymill allotted southern sledging in the sound to A. Stephenson, Rev. W. L. S. Fleming and G. C. L. Bertram, during the British Graham Land Expedition, 1934-1937.
