- Summary:
-
An artist's book, written in homage to the Greek writer and philosopher, Nikos Kazantzakis (1883-1957) and his book, Report to Greco, in which the artist attempts to review his life and find a way home in the world in relation to the big questions, the dialogue between faith and doubt; good and evil; the past and the present; justice and injustice; the soul and the body. The book takes the form of a medieval codex, a personal devotional work loosely bound in vellum, with handwritten, painted or printed mark-making questioning the individual's place in the matrix of birth, death, salvation, faith, belief and the afterlife. The artist's monologue is handwritten in walnut coloured ink, which evokes the past, and relies on the form of the book to preserve memory and record the oral tradition, and thus transmit knowledge, but through conversation and dialogue tries to make the story of our understanding of our beginnings open ended.--Based on the artist's statement.
