MS Acc14.105 comprises over one hundred letters written by Hastings S. Huggins to his mother Emily Gallagher and sister Dorothy Connoly from 1915 until his death in 1925. The letters cover the viewpoint of an Australian trying to make a living in the United States during and after the First World War. Topics covered in the letters include: life in America such as employment, church, entertainment, music, food, lodgings, travel; life in Britain from his perspective reading letters and newspapers; views on the First World War such as the U.S. involvement in the war; and references to the Australasian Association of San Francisco and Norman Lindsay. Also included in the collection is a monograph of Eastes' Patent Process for Improvements in treating vegetable juices and in making sugar, printed by J.G. Smith South Brisbane 1878; an eight page manuscript titled Colonial Toadyism and Cliquism and a letter of reference (1905) from the Mayor of Windsor, J. Paine (1 box).
