MS Acc14.043 comprises five letters written by Mrs Jeannie ('Aeneas') Gunn, to Walter Lewis, in 1919. Lewis had been a POW in Germany, after the first Battle of Bullecourt, he met Gunn while convalescing in Melbourne. Mrs Gunn befriended and ‘considerably helped’ Lewis, she gave him these letters to encourage and support him as he made the rail journey back to family in Queensland. He was instructed to open one each day. Also, short description of events written by Grace Thiele (Lewis’s daughter). Six related photographs (1 folder).

Jeannie Gunn married Aeneas Gunn in 1901 and went with him to Elsey Station on the Roper River, Northern Territory. He died in 1903 and she returned to Melbourne where she wrote The little black princess and We of the never never (1908).
