This collection consists mainly of correspondence, paintings, sketches & books including some rare and early items by Martin Boyd: 1. General corespondence for 1919-1972, mainly during his years in Rome. The correspondence includes family letters, Joan and Daryl Lindsay letters, letters from various Australian authors, literary critics, friends and letters from publishers & literary agents about MB's books-Brangane, The Montforts, Dearest Idol, Outbreak of love, and others. 2. Sketches & watercolours by Boyd; 3. Books by Boyd some with pseudonym Martin Mills and Waler a'Beckett. Rare copies of Dearest Idol, The Picnic, Why they walk out (published by MB). There is a series of books on Boyd by C. Wallace Crabbe, T. O'Neill, Brenda Niall, etc.
This collection includes extensive book reviews on Boyd's works. 4. Photographs of family friends, MB's Cambridge and Rome days, and places & buildings he was associated with in Rome & England. 5. Personal papers consist of a small group of documents, extract of MB's birth certificate, material on his art exhibitions 1964 & 1967 in Melbourne, Short stories and articles.
