Boyd letters to F.A.W. Mann. 1) Letter dated 8 October 1918, one of the earliest surviving written by Martin Boyd. Boyd makes several references to No. 57 Squadron and to Barbara Baynton. 2) "Dear Rose" letter ca. 1925. MB makes references to No. 25 Squadron. This letter was written in West Wittering. 3) Letter dated on 9 Nov. 1971 just after MB's first operation. Written in Rome. 4) Letter dated 10 April 1972, Rome, about a draft of a book by Frank Mann. 5) Last letter dated 26 April 1972. MB recalls Mann's air crash in 1917. Typescript note giving details of each letter and commenting on Brenda Niall's book on Boyd: Mann says Boyd never became a pilot as quoted in Brenda Niall's book.

F.A.W. Mann first met Martin Boyd in 1917, when he joined No. 57 Squadron Royal Flying Corps, then stationed at St Marie Capeller in Northern France, in which Martin Boyd was an observer and Mann a pilot.
