The collection contains: handwritten statements, correspondence, newspaper cuttings and radio scripts relating to the Ern Malley poetry hoax of 1944; drafts, reviews, newspaper clippings, photographs, negatives, illustrations, artwork relating to Simpson's books including "Plumes and arrows", "Adam with arrows", "Pleasure Islands of the South Pacific Fiji, New Caledonia", "Blue Africa", "Wake up to New Zealand", "The New Australia", "Island of men", "Viking Circle", "Strange and wonderful", "Wake up in Europe" and "Adam in ochre"; multiple boxes of photographs and slides taken in many countries including of Australia, Europe, Scandanavia, Japan, Greece, Pacific Islands, Chile, Hong Kong, Macau, Papua New Guinea, Russia, New Zealand, Nepal; personal and family papers and photos; correspondence about Simpson's travels; biographical material; theatre programs; memorabilia; songs and poetry written by Simpson; articles, notes, speeches concerning Aboriginal rights and culture; personal papers of Claire Simpson including a draft and copy of her book "The walking house".@

Biography/History

Author; Vice President Australian Society of Authors; 18 years journalist on Sydney papers including editor of Fact (a supplement to the Sydney Sun) in 1944.
