- Summary:
-
An artist's book of documentary photographs taken in 2011 while Stephen Dupont was a recipient of the Robert Gardner Fellowship in Photography from Harvard University. It records the colourful painted store fronts of a wide variety of Papua New Guinea retailers. A small number of single images appear first, followed by short sequences of multiple image panoramas. The montage format loosely suggests one side of the street of Ed Ruscha's Every Building on the Sunset Strip (1966), but ever-present passers-by (and relatively few vehicles) suggest a much more vibrant street culture, although the retail shopping strips recorded here are reportedly endangered by the forces of Westernisation and the unrelenting advent of the supermarket.
