- Summary:
-
"Kushi and kanzashi are the names of the combs and hair-pins used to ornament traditional Japanese hairstyles. There is an innate ornamentation and symbology in this Eastern Style which I find immensely compelling. For some time, I have been pushing lithographs and etchings beyond their typical two dimensions. An artist's book is able to transform a print into a three dimensional object. Haiku-like poems accompany the lithographic images in this flexible, silk-covered artists' book. These poems have been paradoxically type set in Old English & Black Letter fonts to give a visual simulacra of ink calligraphy."-Artist's statement.
