Summary

His correspondence covers his botanical explorations in Australia; the captivity of Matthew Flinders in Mauritius; the publication of Prodromus florae Novae Hollandiae in 1810; and the discoveries by other botanists in Australia and the East Indies. The correspondents include Sir Joseph Banks, Ferdinand Bauer, George Caley, Allan Cunningham, Matthew Flinders, Sir William Hooker, P.G. King, Sir Thomas Mitchell and Olaf Swartz.

Biography/History

Robert Brown was a naturalist on the Investigator in 1801-03 and, after his return to England in 1805, he was librarian to the Linnean Society and Sir Joseph Banks.
