Summary

McKechnie speaks of her family background, early life and dance lessons at the Studio of Creative Dance in Melbourne. She discusses the influence of Daisy Purneza, use of live music during lessons, her dance school at Beaumaris and teaching methods. She speaks of the formation of the Australian Contemporary Dance Theatre in 1963; the influence of Bodenwieser, developing her Company's repertoire and University of New England summer schools in 1969, 1974 and 1976. She talks about Peggy van Praagh, Graeme Murphy, studying overseas in 1974, her appointment as senior tutor in 1975 at Rusden and developing the degree course. She discusses her visit to Canada in 1978, arts funding, and the recording of 'Perspectives', an ABC arts program in 1969.
