Summary

Selections from the correspondence of Maxse, 1887-1931. The correspondence primarily relates to Maxse's editorship of the National Review and particularly the inclusion of articles on colonial topics. Subjects discussed include articles by A. Deakin for the National Review; Australian politics, defence and foreign relations; the appointment of Australian officials; World War I and the conscription referendum; W.M. Hughes and Archbiship Mannix. Major correspondents include A. Deakin, B.R. Wise, A.W. Jose and W.M. Hughes.

Biography/History

Toured India, Australia, New Zealand, Canada and the United States, 1887-88. Proprietor and editor of monthly journal "National Review", 1893-1932.
