| Summary |
Papers documenting the creation and subsequent history of the Southern Cross Memorial. The papers include correspondence, newspaper cuttings, publications, plans, notes, photographs, speeches and other material. The papers document the various exhibitions of the Memorial in Australia, the United States and the Netherlands and the protracted negotiations between Byrne and the Australian Government concerning the presentation of the Memorial to the Australian people and the arrangements for its long-term custody and display. Principal correspondents include John P. Errington and Ward McNally. The collection also includes a variety of papers which document the achievements of Charles Kingsford Smith and C.T.P. Ulm and Byrne's ongoing commitment to the promotion of those achievements.
