O'Neill, former New South Wales State President of the Australian Railways Union, speaks about his family background; living conditions in country Victoria and New South Wales in the early 1900s; working at glassworks in Sydney; working on the railways at Griffith; involvement with the Australian Railways Union; National Union of Railwaymen and the 1917 strike; moving to Lithgow; Alderman on Lithgow Council; Ben Chifley; State Council of the ARU; problems with the Railways Dept.; becoming ARU State President in 1940; Lloyd Ross; his anti-communist feelings; becoming ARU organiser in 1947; industrial issues; issues as industrial officer; The Movement; Industrial Groups; Jack Ferguson; 1949 coal strike; dieselisation campaigns of 1950s; current railway safety standards; arbitration system; NSW Labor Council; ACTU; Jack Lang and the Lang Labor Party.
