Menzies speaks, against constant objections from a sizeable section of the audience, by making reference to the Communists currently killing Australian troops in Korea, main functions of government primarily to contribute to world peace and security, to maintain security of the nation against aggression, to maintain peace within our own territories, to maintain high living standards and high employment, to develop the instruments of production, and to provide social services of a high level to maintain social justice, the main achievemments of his government since Dec. 1949, derides his critics including the Opposition over the last 12 months. He declines to address the coming Budget. Australia now sending troops to Korea to defend world peace, the Pacific Pact with the U.S. & N.Z for security within the Pacific region., the introduction of national service, industrial legislation to stop communists holding union office, less industrial trouble, Australian enjoy among the best living standards.
Menzies speaks of his recent trip to the U.K. Australian exports to Britain, British military imports, promote the need for a British Commonwealth, our Asian neighbors subject to communist threat, Communism and South East Asia; loans in the U.S.; Uranium; Australian Loan Council; state works programmes, the demands of States; public works; trade. The speech is incomplete and Menzies reacts against the disruptors by deriding them as communists.
