Paul Mercurio, actor, dancer, choreographer, manager of Australian Choreographic Ensemble, speaks of his lead role in the film Strictly Ballroom, his aim to diversify in the performing arts, his work with Sydney Dance Company and subsequent interest in choreography, founding his own dance company Australian Choreographic Ensemble (ACE) in 1992, his interest in film and dance, his relunctance to continue with stage work, his first choreographic productions including Cafe and In the Company of Wo/Men, his approach to choreography, his film Emotional Disconnection and his plans for a feature film Dance Burglar, his family's move to Perth, influence of musicals, schooling at John Curtin High School specialising in theatrical arts, scholarship with the West Australian Ballet Company, the poor education received by young dancers neglecting their long term prospects and health; and how he as a manager strives to look after his dancers.
