Isobel Varney Monk (wife of musician Cyril Monk) was born in Bacchus Marsh, Vic. on 18 January 1892, and died in Sydney on 7 February 1967. She won 2nd prize in a competition for an Australian musical play in 1932, "Collits' Inn", which was staged in Sydney. She later composed "Cedar Tree" which was not as successful. Varney Monk won the Henry Lawson Festival award for song writing in 1966.
