In 1896 the Library Association of Australasia was formed, and was dissolved in 1902. The Australian Library Association was formed in 1928 and ceased in 1933. In 1937 the Australian Institute of Librarians was founded. In November 1949 the Australian Institute of Librarians changed its name to the Library Association of Australia. Early 1989, the Association changed its name to Australian Library and Information Association. Works by these bodies are entered under the name used at the time of publication
