In Feb. 1954 New England University College changed its name to University of New England. On 17 July 1989 a network University also called University of New England was created with campuses at Armidale and Lismore. At Armidale campus, the University of New England and Armidale College of Advanced Education were amalgamated to form University of New England-Armidale. At Lismore campus the Northern Rivers College of Advanced Education was incorporated into the network, forming University of New England, Northern Rivers. The network University also included University of New England Coffs Harbour Centre. In 1990, Orange Agricultural College joined the network. In Nov. 1993, the network University was dismantled and from 1994 the university at Armidale campus reverted to its earlier name, University of New England.
