- First published 1888 by private local company. Purchased 1893 by Frederick Charles Hodel, and sold June 1896 to Mary Ann Coran, whose husband Alexander published the paper from 4 July that year until his death in 1940. Ceased publication 1942 due to war conditions and never restarted.
- Issued Saturdays as 4-page issue, with 1-page 'extra' on Wednesdays. From 1914, issued as single-sided daily. Renowned as 'world's smallest daily newspaper', and prized by collectors.
- Titled Daily Pilot from 1914 to late 1927/early 1928, then Torres Strait Daily Pilot.
