N.S.W. politician (1859-1879) and in 1876 became Attorney-General in the Parkes government. He was appointed a judge in the N.S.W and Qld. Courts and also became Vice Chancellor & Chancellor of Sydney University. He was a social reformer interested in a broad range of issues including education and poverty.
