Sherry speaks on his childhood and family background; work and social conditions in the 1930s; rejection of his foster parents' beliefs; jobs after he left school including time in the merchant navy and David Jones; early political influences and involvement in the British Labour Party; comparisons between the House of Commons and the British Labour Party and their Australian equivalents; his love of books and reading; memories of Sydney; drama training at the Whitehall Academy of Dramatic Art, Sydney; touring Japan with a theatre group; difficulties in obtaining acting work in England; experiences with the Royal Shakespeare Memorial Theatre Company, 1952-1954; his impressions of associates including Robert Shaw, Peggy Ashcroft, Leo McKern, Anthony Quayle, Harry Andrews, the Redgrave family, John Gielgud, and Laurence Harvey; his love of Shakespeare and work in radio and television in Hobart.

Sherry was the member for Franklin, Tas. in the House of Representatives for the A.L.P. from October 1969 until December 1975. He spent his earlier career in the merchant navy and as an actor.
