On 21 November 1965, 1RAR landed at Võ Đá̆t by helicopter from Bien Hoa Air Force Base as part of Operation New Life, to restore government control to the area and prevent the rice harvest falling into the hands of the Viet Cong. Advancing to attack Đức Hạnh on 24 November, they successfully cleared it, and the village of Võ Xu further east, by 30 November.
