MS Acc98.193 includes minutes of meetings and records and correspondence of the Gold Coast Protection League (GCPL), and papers of other environmental groups such as Groups Against Sewage Pollution (GASP) and Surfers Against Nuclear Destruction (SAND). The accession contains files on issues of importance in Gold Coast politics, some Australian Labor Party and trade union material as well as documenting Donald MacSween's extensive environmental lobbying activities. The accession also comprises annotated newspaper cuttings, political ephemera (for example, political manifesto of Democrat Greens 1984) and correspondence with political identities, for example, Russ Hinze (48 boxes).
The Acc98.245 instalment comprises papers relating to the Victorian Branch of the Clothing and Allied Trades Union, photocopies of personal documents including a statutory declaration relating to non-membership of the Communist Party, and correspondence (1 folder).
The Acc01.003 instalment documents MacSween's political activities in Victoria, extending back to World War II, and consists of pamphlets and booklets, an indexed cuttings scrapbook, and correspondence and files on Hiroshima Day (1 box).

Trade unionist and environmentalist. Donald (Don) Roffey MacSween was an active trade unionist and Australian Labor Party member over many years and held a number of honorary positions including memberships of the ALP Central Executives in both New South Wales and Victoria. MacQueen was Victorian Secretary of the Clothing and Allied Trades Union of Australia and author of a booklet, The Berlin powderkeg!: and other things (1958?). MacSween devoted his spare time to organising and writing in support of the Labor cause and undertook pioneering environmental work in Queensland.
