- Notes:
- National Library of Australia's copies in variant bindings of pebbled purple cloth, with embossed compass on covers; and green cloth, with elaborate pattern within black border on front cover which includes gilt embossing of title, flower, part pattern. This green cover version, which Sadleir designates the "subsequent and 'first illustrated' editions," has greatly reduced copies of the six illustrations by different artists from the serial issue in the 1873 Christmas issue of The Graphic, and was bound in green, red, blue or in violet cloth, elaborately blocked in gold and black, with a publishers' catalogue, vii, 40 p. dated October 1874. The purple cloth version, spine tanned, appears to be a variant of Sadleir's exremely rare genuine (unillustrated) first edition, although it has been cut down to 4 3/4 x 6 3/4 (slightly larger than the second issue), rather than the 5 x 7 1/2 inch uncut sheets of the standard first issue, gold-lettered on the spine only HARRY | HEATHCOTE, not HARRY | HEATHCOTE | OF | GANGOIL | BY | ANTHONY TROLLOPE, and lacks the (1)-48 pp. October 1873 publisher's catalogue.
