Copies of eight surviving letters written by Watkins from Kurri Kurri, New South Wales to John Griffiths in Troedyrhiw, South Wales. The letters talk of social conditions, and public opinion of the time. There are also three letters to Anne Boyle, John Griffith's daughter, written in 1945.
- Biography/History:

Watkins came from Abergavenny in Moumouthshire went to Troedyrhiw to work at the Castle coalmine. He became friends with John Griffiths through their mutual interest in literature and politics. On medical advice Walkins left the mine and decided to emigrate to Australia, from where he corresponded with Griffiths for 39 years. None of the letters from Griffiths have survived.
