The Joonatan trilogy – Joonatan, kadunud veli ('Joonatan, The Lost Brother', 1971), Öö astmes x ('Night to the Power of x', 1973) and Puu saarel on alles ('The Tree Still Stands on the Island', 1973) – continues using the same motifs from the Tartu cycle by observing an expatriate’s visit to their hometown over the course of two days and a nightmarish night. The trilogy was inspired by a dream and its second and third parts were written in 17 days.
