Furber was raised by her grandmother in the Gap Cottages, Alice Springs, although her mother would visit frequently. At the age 8 she was removed and placed at St. Johns Hostel, where she remained for three or four years. She was then transferred to St. Mary's Anglican Hostel. She recalls her confusion about the unfamiliar environment and strict routines. She was later transferred to Adelaide where she attended Croydon School, before working in the health and welfare area. Furber has now returned to Alice Springs where she has reunited with some of her family, with assistance of Link-Up. She discusses the positive and negative effects of separation on her life, and expresses her views on the issue of compensation for separated children.
