1. Conversation: Hilly discusses his early life, his father as an alluvial miner and the move to Argalong was in search of gold and tin, working conditions in mining area in hydraulic mining, how he worked with his father mining gold, the 1927 fire in the camp, recalls no songs in the mining camp, how his father used to sing Botany Bay, the tough life in the bush such as cooking in camp ovens, slab houses in Argalong, how he would travel 13 miles to school, sports, dances held in private homes, his school life in Argalong though the teacher lived in Tumut, his schooling until age 14, how he worked with horses on leases for F.W. Hughes, how he joined the Lighthorse in WWII and was a Bren Gun carriers, how he settled in Sydney after his discharge from the Army, his desciption of musicians at dances, the type of dances performed except Alberts, dances held every weekend and the regular musicians who attended, recalls a dance at Kiandra when he was age 16 where they played Hawaiian steel guitar, how he could tune the guitar but not did not know the notes. 2.
