Devescovi speaks of his parental background, how he started to sing in 1948 in Italy where he auditioned for a local radio station, sang for the Italian Army and later sang for Radio Florence, how he eventually came to Australia in 1951 on a 2 year contract but would have to go where he was directed, Bonegilla Camp in April 1951 and eventually wants to leave the Camp and go to Sydney which he is allowed to do, how the Australian government was then against communists, his view of the Germans, transfers to Sydney and gets a job with Tasma Radios where he worked on the assembly line manufacturing radio sets, would work at night singing in the local clubs like Chequers and Romanos, how he sang with Lorrae Desmond, his night singing paid far more than his day job, the acceptance of Italians by Australians, the union fees for performers, made records in 1956 under the name Luci Devi recorded at Burwood Studios, excluded from R.S.L Clubs because of his Italian background, how rock 'n roll caused the demise of nightclubs and private clubs could not compete with licensed clubs (e.g. R.S.L.), sings in Newcastle for
