The Sydney Opera House is Australia's busiest performing arts centre and an important community meeting place. The building was formally opened by Queen Elizabeth II on 20 October 1973, it has more then seven venues and event spaces, and hosts to a wide range of events such as concerts, ballets, operas, and theatre productions. It has three resident companies: Opera Australia, the Sydney Theatre Company and the Sydney Symphony Orchestra.
