Mick McHugh, discusses his family and background; born during Depression; family moved to Emerald; father found short term work, drank brought little money home; catching food to cook and eat; living in tents; family caught train to Rockhampton; schooling; American troops; mother made him go shoe shining; moved a lot; Duck Pond, Egan's Hill living in tent, he gets work on dairy farm; Gladstone, father leaves; first job on Junee Station, 12; at 16 wanted to see how other stations work; Brigalow, good wages, poor tucker; Mount Stuart Station; father camp cook; saved from bull; rodeo championships; Queensland Championships; Central Queensland Championships; Queen Elizabeth II, awarded him ribbons, taken, never got back; stock camps; injuries; cattle and horses changed; experienced stockmen hard to find, leaving bush life; his health and retirement.
